National Marine Data & Information Service of China (NMDIS) is a integrated institution responsible for the collection, process, management and providing service of marine data and information in China.

Since 1970s, it has conducted all kind of digitizing and the quality control of marine data and information in China. Rich experiences have been accumulated in the field of data and information digitizing and quality control. Highly efficient working procedures for the quality control of digitization has been set up, with enough advanced facilities and well-trained personnel.

World Data Center- D for Oceanography is co-located with the NMDIS and managed by its staff. For many years, in addition to conduct international marine data exchange, it has also undertook digitizing work for other countries, such as the successful completion of the digitizing of the “Maury Collection”(ship observations) and Marine Meteorological Collection for NCDC/NOAA/USA with total records of 3.5 million. Though there was some problems in the quality of information on the paper media because of the storage for years, we have done well for the digitizing. The percentage of mistaken during the digitizing is under three per ten thousand according to the user’s qualification and praised highly by the NOAA.

NMDIS would like to undertake such digitizing work for any country and any organizations in the world. We assure that the work could be done effectively in time, with reasonable price and reliable quality. The digitized data could be transferred to the user through China Ocean Information Network at quickest speed ( http://www.coi.gov.cn ).
