During 1993-1995, the national total output of salt was 3,014,400 tons, the average output annually was 17,671,500 tons, with the total output of salt holding the 2nd position in the world, among which sea salt industry produced 59,384,000 tons of salt in three years, with annual production 19,795,000 tons. The output of sea salt still held the 1st position all over the world (table 1). The three-year high output of the sea salt resulted in the situation of “supply exceeding demand”. In 1995, the production of sea salt in national sea salt areas is as follows: The North Salt Production Region: Tianjin Municipality: 2,214,000 Tons; Guangdong Province: 3,338,000 Tons; Liaoning Province: 2,109,000 Tons; Jiangsu Province: 2,271,000 Tons; Shandong Province: 5,104,000 Tons. The South Salt Production Region: Zhejiang Province: 668,000t; Fujian Province: 723,000t; Guangdong Province: 256,000t; Guangxi Autonomous Region, 76,000t. In 1995, the chemical products of sea salt reached 60 kinds and the output reached 600,000t. With regard to the aquatic farming in the salt pan, the shrimp industry withered because of the spread of shrimp disease, and turned to breed the fish and shellfish. According to the statistics data of the coastal marine management units, the national annual output of the sea salt industry in 1993, 1994 and 1995 is 36.84 billion RMB and 47.7 billion RMB respectively (among which the added value in 1995 is 19.78 billion RMB, the lump sum tax value is 562.82 million RMB). The number of the staff who engage in this industry in 1993,1994 and 1995 is 370000, 148300 and 147000 respectively. |
