National Marine Nature Reserves

The Changli Golden Seashore nature reserve is located in the Changli county, Hebei,covering a total area of 30000 ha.The protected object is the coastal ecosystem which consists of the shelter-forest belt, dunes, sand dyke in the shore, lagoon and marine organisms in the coastal water.

The Shankou mangrove ceosystem nature reserve is located on the eastem Guangxi coast in the subtropic region and the northern boundary of the East Asia biogeograpbical r- egion. In the existing 8000 ha mangrove woodland there are many rare species.

The Dazhou Island marine ecosystem nature reserve, covering a total area of 7000ha, is located in the Wanning County, Hainan. The objects of protection are esculent swifts and their habitat.

The Tianjin palaeocoastal and wetland nature reserve, covering an area of 71180 ha, is located in the west of the Bohai Bay, where grow reed grass,cord grass, salt marsh hay and algae et.al.,along with more than 100 species of birds. Tianjin estuarine wetlands are an important ecosystem supporting for fishery resou- rces in the Bohai Bay. Since the wetlands were prev- iously some lagoons and estuaries 2000 years B.P.,a great quantity of marine relics can still be found there. They become famous in the world for the shell dykes and oyster beachs.

Four shell dykes are distributed over the
Tianjin shoreplain of fhe west of the Bohai
Bay. They were formed through transport-
ation of shells from offshore bottom to the
shore by tides and stomy waves 500～5000
years ago.

The San-ya coral reef nature reserve, covering a total area of 8500 ha, is located in the southern Hainan Prov- ince, north of the tropic zone, whe- re 80 species of reef corals are sc- attering below the water surface.Am- ong the coral communities many are rare species characteristic of typi- cal fringing reefs.

The Nanji Archipalego marine nature reserve, covering a total area of 20106 ha, is loca- ted at the offshore of zhejiang province in the transition belt of the temperate and su- btropic zones. It is influenced by the Tai- wan warm current and Zhejiang coastal curr- ents.As an important genetic pool for plants and animals in China Seas,it is rich in mo- lluscs and algae resources characteristic of the breakage distrubution over the temparate and tropic biogeographic region.

The Shenhu Bay ancient forest relics reserve is located in the Shenhu Bay, Fujian Province,cov- ering a total area of 3100 ha . The objects of protection are ancient bottom forest relics,oy- ster shell reefs and abrasion metamorphic rock.
