Ship-based Pollution Compensation Mechanism to be Adopted in China

　　The 2005 International Maritime Forum held in Shanghai told the media that a public foundation system is to be established in our country for oil pollution management, so a guarantee will provided to the emergency system for dealing with marine oil pollution, and the formulation work has entered into a finalization period for some regulations and methods' etermination.

It is reported that 90% of the imported oil from abroad is transported by the sea, and the transportation amount is being on the rise, thus leading to an increasing risk in oil transportation. Some related statistics show that on oil spill accident will occur in every three and a half days. While the over ten tons of serious oil spill accidents occur twice each year. For this reason, it was high time that we establish our own compensation mechanism in this field.
